Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has introduced personal radiation monitoring badges or dosimeter badges to enhance protection of its staff against exposure to harmful levels of radiation.

Radiation badges monitor for acceptable levels of radiation to ensure levels do not exceed occupational dose limits.

IGMH introduced radiation badges at the initiation of its Radiology Department this Monday.

The hospital reports that it marks the first time for radiation badges to be introduced to Maldives.

It expects the badges to allow its Radiology Department staff to monitor the levels of radiation they are exposed to, and allow then to take the necessary protective measures.

IGMH, in addition to introducing radiation badges, has also implemented a radiation protection program.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, IGMH’s CEO Bandhu Ibrahim Saleem said that safety and awareness of hospital staff was essential to delivering quality healthcare services to patients.

He also noted that IGMH was working on meeting the standards of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers in its bid to improve the quality of its healthcare services.
