President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent out his greetings of the 31st Victory Day to Maldivians.

The President did so in a tweet in the morning and sent out his earnest well wishes to all Maldivians before praying for the martyrs who lost their lives in the 1988 coup to be granted into paradise.

Victory Day is celebrated on November 3 of every year to celebrate the victory over the mercenaries that tried to oust the then President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in collaboration with a few Maldivians. The attack that shocked the nation, saw the loss of 19 Maldivians lives. 11 of those martyrs were innocent civilians.

While Maldives celebratews 31 years since the attack, it should be noted that some of those who played key roles behind that attack such as Sagaru Ahmed Naasir has now been released from prison.

However, the mastermind behind the attack, Abdulla Luthufy from H. Haajaraage managed to escape from custody after traveling to Sri Lanka on January 16, 2010. He was only brought back a few months ago on July 10, 2019, after nine years. Luthufy is currently being investigated and is expected to be charged for his escape.
