1600 hectares of land to be reclaimed for industrial harbor

Boskalis Westminster Contracting Ltd has been contracted for MVR 53 million to reclaim 1600 hectares of land from Gulhifalhu for an industrial harbor in Gulhifalhu.

The agreement was signed last Thursday and the project is expected to be completed within 180 days and was signed by Planning Ministry Director Shaana Faarooq and Area Manager of Boskalis Westminster.

A four-kilometer coastline quay is to be constructed with nearly 1600 hectares of reclaimed land for the project to lift the burden of congestion faced in Male’ city. This is the first phase of the project to lessen the burden on Male’ city and will house the industrial harbor.

The Boskalis company has carried out projects in the Maldives previously and carried out reclamation projects in 10 islands of the country between 2007 and 2015.
