Yellow alert issued for Central and Northern regions

Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued a yellow alert for the Central and Northern region of the Maldives due to the bad weather currently being experienced.

The Met Office statement read that thunderstorms and heavy rain is expected for islands between Shaviyani Atoll and Meemu Atoll. It is also forecast that different regions of the country will experience thunderstorms and rainfall for the next 24 hours. Seas are expected to be moderately rough.

A Met Office official stated to “Sun” that the Maldives was currently experiencing a spell bad weather resulting from the wet season or monsoon known as “Hulhangu moosun” locally.

“The weather is expected to be bad for the next two days, and it is not expected to get better for the next five days.” Stated the Met Office.
