Maldives, EU engage in round-table talks on investment

Preparations are being made for round table talks between the Maldives and European Union to provide information regarding investment opportunities and other business ventures.

The talks are being commenced under the name “Investing in the Maldives” and will be co-chaired by Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail and EU Ambassador to the Maldives H.E Mr. Tun-Lai Margue. This is the first time such talks have been held between Eu and the Maldives.

The event will also include a presentation on economic overview and investment opportunities by the Economic Ministry as well as a presentation on the National Development Plan and National Spatial Plan Initiative by the Planning Ministry as well. A presentation by Maldives Fund Corporations will also be carried out with Q&A sessions planned to be held afterward.

Potential investors and Eu businesses that already exist in the country will take part in this event. The discussions are held to provide a platform to facilitate and improve trade investments in the Maldives by European companies.

The roundtable discussions were announced by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the Commission of the European Union Mrs. Federica Mogherini during her visit to the Maldives on August 8, 2019.
