Sixth Maldives-EU Policy Dialogue held in Maldives

The sixth Maldives-European Union (EU) Policy Dialogue was held in the Maldives on Wednesday.

This marks the first in-person Policy Dialogue since the COVID-19 pandemic – with some member states participating virtually in a hybrid format.

The purpose of the annual dialogue is to facilitate open and constructive engagement between Maldives and EU – to further strengthen the existing ties of friendship and cooperation between the two.

This year’s dialogue featured discussions on democracy, governance and strengthening of the justice sector, security cooperation, trade, tourism, investment, finance and economic cooperation, environment and climate change and Schengen Visa facilitation.

Ambassadors of the EU, and senior Maldivian government officials including cabinet ministers participated in the dialogue.

The Maldivian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid – whilst the EU delegation will be led by Ambassador of the European Union to the Maldives Denis Chaibi.
