Fisherman medically evacuated to Naifaru following fishhook injury

A fisherman has been medically evacuated to the Lh. Atoll Hospital in Naifaru after getting pierced in the eye with a fishhook.

The fisherman injured in the incident has been identified as a 42-year-old local male – a crew member of the boat Handhuvaree which had been fishing eight nautical miles off the coast of Lh. Dhiffushimaadhoo.

MNDF says the incident was reported to the agency at approximately 6:30 am this Sunday, upon which a MNDF Northern Area Coastguard boat was immediately dispatched for assistance.

The injured fisherman was taken to Naifaru on a sea ambulance with the assistance of the MNDF.

According to the Lh. Atoll Hospital, the condition of the fisherman isn’t serious.
