Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali says the contribution of teachers to the nation is invaluable, and cannot be measured in monetary terms or with a simple word of praise.

Dr. Aishath made the remark in her address on occasion of World Teacher’s Day this Saturday.

Dr. Aishath noted in her address that every single person had at least one teacher who had made such a lasting impression that it changed their whole outlook on life. She said that there were several successful individuals who could attribute all their success to their teachers.

Noting that the hard work and service of teachers was both invaluable and lasting, she acknowledged that the salary of teachers as well as the recognition awarded to them for their service was low.

She said that the low salary grade of public school teachers was posing a challenge for the Maldivian administration to recruit and retain teachers.

Dr. Aishath stressed the issue was of national concern.

She also noted the challenges in promoting inclusivity within the education system due to lack of resources – effecting children which physical and mental handicaps.
