Police rescue abducted migrant worker, arrest 6

The police have rescued a migrant worker who was abducted and held in Male’ City and arrested six of his abductors.

The migrant worker was abducted and held at a third floor apartment of a residential building which houses migrant workers located in the Maafannu district of the capital.

The police report its officers raided the building as soon as it was tipped off to a migrant worker being held in the building.

The police rescued the abducted migrant worker and arrested five suspects during the raid on Friday. It later arrested a sixth suspect.

The suspects have been identified as; two 24-year-old males, a 20-year-old male, a 22-year-old male, a 28-year-old male and a 29-year-old male.

All suspects are migrant workers from Bangladesh.

 

The abduction is under further investigation by the police.

The case comes a week after another migrant worker – identified as a 34-year-old Bangladeshi citizen – was abducted and held for 24 hours. The man was abducted on Saturday, September 28, but managed to evade his abductors and escape on Sunday, September 29.
