A person has still not been charged in the abduction and murder of journalist Ahmed Rilwan in 2014.
The Commission of Deaths and Disappearances (DDCOM) has published a summary report regarding the murder after it investigated Rilwan's disappearance and the President had stated on August 19 that the Commission will send it to the Prosecutor General information to charge the alleged suspects in the case within a week.
However, Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham stated to "Sun" today that the PG office had not received anything from the DDCOM on bringing charges against those involved in the case. The President of the DDCOM Husnu Al Suood did not answer the phone for requests of a comment regarding the matter.
The PG office had stated that it was collaborating with the DDCOM at a working level since the draft report was published and that steps to attain justice will be taken once the case is officially submitted. The PG office, DDCOM, and the Police have met regarding the case previously.
DDCOM's investigation led to the conclusion that Rilwan was abducted, murdered and decapitated and sunk into the sea by an Al Qaeda affiliated extremist group operating in the Maldives. The report also stated that Police intelligence had received information regarding the murder and two officers had tried to misstate the facts of the case.
