A USD 20 million project aimed at increasing the interest of youths towards employment and enhancing their skills has commenced today.
The project named Maldives Enhancing Employability and Resilience of Youth Project will be carried out jointly by the Economic Ministry and Ministry of Higher Education and would be partly funded by the aid of the World Bank.
At the ceremony held in Hotel Jen to launch the project, Higher Education Minister Dr. Ibrahim Hassan stated that a lot of things were planned under this project including enabling youths to gain training in ICT, tourism and in the construction sector all over the country, and stated his optimism that the project will help develop the economy as well.
Free aid to start-up business projects, establishing a youth hub and incubation support facilities would also be provided under this project.
"We are forming a skills strategy that is in line with the 21st century. We are now collecting the different statistics regarding it," said the Minister. He also stated that the government was working nonstop to ensure that the youths of today are responsible and that the project initiated today was aimed at opening up opportunities for youths.
