Records released by the police traffic management department shows over 700 vehicles were issued parking violation stickers in the week following the Eid al-Adha holiday.
Traffic management department records for the one-week period from August 17 – 23 was released by the police this Sunday. It shows total 769 vehicles were issued parking violation stickers.
The figure is a significant increase compared to the 44 traffic violation stickers issued during the Eid holiday – when a large number of residents had travelled out of the capital.
TRAFFIC VIOLATION FINE:
Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) is expected to raise at least MVR 192,250 from traffic violation fines during the one-week period.
Additional records show the traffic police checked 557 vehicles in the Greater Male’ Area during the period.
The traffic police also penalized 140 people for unlicensed driving, and 107 people for driving without their license despite being licensed drivers.
43 traffic accidents and injuries to 13 people from traffic accidents were recorded in the Greater Male’ Area during the period. Authorities suspended the licenses of 13 people in connection to the accidents.
Meanwhile, the traffic police also penalized 52 people for over speeding, 17 for violation of traffic signals, and three people for underage driving.
22 people were stopped and questioned for driving without a helmet, and 38 people for wearing the headset or speaking on the phone while driving.
