Family shares information on elderly woman found on street

The family of a woman found in distress on the streets of Male' has spoken with the Gender Ministry to provide information regarding the woman's case.

Photos that went viral on social media showed the elderly woman sitting in an alleyway in Male' without shoes or sandals and prompted the Gender Ministry to begin efforts to find the woman. The Ministry has stated that her case was being investigated now.

"We are trying to find out how this happened. We would like to thank everyone who brought this to our attention and spread the Ministry's message," A tweet from the Gender Ministry read.

No other information about the woman was provided by the Gender Ministry.

Earlier this year, the Gender Ministry checked up on people living in distress in the Market area of Male' city and also helped a man who was found sleeping on a mattress on the streets of Male' city.
