HPA issues advisory over spread of viral diarrhea

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has issued an advisory over the spread of viral diarrhea in Maldives.

Records released by HPA shows 3,808 cases of diarrhea was reported in July; thrice the number of cases reported in June.

HPA reports that the cases are mostly viral diarrhea, which is spread when infected people touch food or surfaces with their hands without proper handwashing.

The agency has stressed that proper handwashing with soap and water is the most important measure against viral diarrhea.

It has advised the public to properly wash hands after using the toilet, changing diapers, before preparing food and feeding.

  • High fever
  • Stomachache
  • Loss of appetite
  • Body pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting

Records released by HPA shows an increase in cases of viral diarrhea in July and August each year.
