Former register of Jumhoory Party (JP), Ahmed Saud has been elected the party’s deputy leader.
Saud was elected JP’s deputy leader at the party’s council meeting on Monday evening.
The position of deputy leader of JP had been vacant for months following the resignation of Dr. Abdulla Mausoom who now serves as Maldivian ambassador to Singapore.
The leader of JP, Ali Waheed serves on the Cabinet of the current administration as Tourism Minister.
The council, during its meeting on Monday, also passed a motion to establish that the party’s candidates at national elections will be determined through a primary.
