Maldives Broadcasting Commission has requested President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to pardon fines on some re-broadcasters.
Statement of request sent by the commission to President Solih states that 29 re-broadcasters were fined within the past two years for re-broadcasting illegally without a license.
They said that even though some have already settled their payments15 companies still remain without completing the payment. The commission said that some of these companies has sought to pardon their fine.
Broadcom also noted that the small-business owners seeks to pardon their fine because of financial difficulties in paying up the due amount and wish to get a second chance.
Moreover, the letter states that some of these re-broadcasting companies have previously sought to pardon their fines from the President’s Office.
“We seek to pardon the fines of these small-business, who are not able to pay up their fines due to financial difficulties through legally mandate ways. We want to give them a second chance and encourage them to practice re-broadcasting according to the laws and regulations,” stated the Broadcasting Commission.
Broadcom has sought President Solih to pardon fines reaching MVR 2,504,000 against re-broadcasters.
