15 cases filed against former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor at the Criminal Court have been returned the Prosecutor General’s Office, confirms Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham.
PG Bisham said her office received all of Adeeb’s cases this Sunday afternoon.
“We received it a short while ago. It wasn’t just the High Court ruling they sent. They have returned all the cases filed against Adeeb,” said Bisham.
She said the Criminal Court returned total 15 cases, included the two cases which High Court called for a retrial.
Adeeb, who, at the beginning of May was facing 33 years in prison, no longer has a lengthy prison sentence against him.
His 15-year prison sentence over the Finifenma explosion case was overturned and ordered for a retrial by High Court on May 20; his 10-year sentence for possession of a firearm was overturned by the Supreme Court on May 27; and his eight-year for embezzling USD 5 million in acquisition cost for Lh. Maabinhura was overturned and ordered for a retrial by High Court on May 30.
Adeeb is currently serving a 15-day prison sentence for contempt of court under house arrest on medical grounds.
