The Parliament has voted in favor of allowing permission for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deliver an address at the Parliament during his scheduled visit to Maldives this coming June.
The request for permission, made by Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, was approved by the Parliament with the unanimous consensus of 80 parliamentarians this Wednesday afternoon.
Modi is scheduled to arrive in Maldives for a two-day visit on June 7. It will mark the first official visit by Modi to a foreign state following his recent election victory.
Speaking during the debate this Wednesday, parliamentarians from all political parties concurred that it would be a huge honor for a leader of a foreign state to address the Maldivian Parliament, especially the leader of such a close ally as India.
