A Maldivian woman who travelled to Saudi Arabia this Ramadan to embark on an Umrah pilgrimage has been reported missing.

Managing Director of Maldives Hajj Corporation, Ismail Hameed says the pilgrim, identified as a 54-year-old woman, went missing last Saturday, April 18.

“She went missing inside the Haram as she walked the path between Safa and Marwa. The search effort is ongoing without pause. We have contacted her family,” said Ismail.

Though uncommon, there have been a few cases of Maldivian pilgrims who went missing in Saudi Arabia in the past.
