Speedboat sinks following engine explosion in A. A. Atoll

A speedboat docked in the lagoon of A. A. Kuramathi Resort sank this Thursday morning following an explosion which originated from the engine of the boat.

Maldives Police Service says the case was reported to the agency at 7:48 am.

The agency reports the explosion took place as the captain started the engine and resulted in a fire.

The captain sustained minor injuries in the explosion and has been discharged following treatment at the A. A. Atoll Hospital.

Maldives Police Service reports it is investigating the cause of the explosion.
