Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has established a department for mental healthcare, Center for Mental Health, at the hospital.
The Center for Mental Health was inaugurated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in a function held at the State-owned hospital this Monday morning.
Research conducted by World Health Organization (WHO) reveals one in every four people suffer from mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives.
Establishment of a designated center for mental healthcare, and Aasandha health insurance coverage for treatment of mental disorders was one of Solih’s 100-day goals.
IGMH reports the vision behind the establishment of the Center for Mental Health is to ensure all mental healthcare services offered by the center are in par with international standards, and available to the general population at a facility free from discrimination and common social stigma associated with mental disorders.
IGMH reports the Center for Mental Health will also initiate programs aimed at raising awareness regarding mental disorders and offer counselling services.
President Solih was joined in the inauguration of Center for Mental Health by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and Minister of Health, Abdulla Ameen.
