Maldives Police Service (MPS) urges to request for their assistance in the physical transportation of cash from one place to another.
There has been an increase in the number of robberies in the country. Within the last two weeks, two cases were reported with a huge sum of money robbed.
Speaking in a press conference held this Thursday, Police Spokeswoman, Chief Inspector of Police Izmia Zahir, said that the number of robbery cases have been increasing - especially when companies undertake cash-in-transit operations to the bank. If huge amounts of cash are to be physically transported, she urged to request for assistance from the Police.
"Business companies and private individuals, if transferring cash in Male', please request for the assistance of Police Installation Security," urged the Spokeswoman.
Installation Security is a service provided by the Police Installation Security Department to help the citizens for cash-in-transit operations.
To ask for the service in Male', police urges to dial the number 9980068.
Izmia also said that the service of assisting in transferring cash in islands will be provided by the island Police Stations and to pose for their help to transfer cash from one place to another in islands.
While the Police have exhorted to use the services provided by the Installation Services of Police to transfer money - this Wednesday MVR 2 million was robbed from a van of MIFCO transferring cash to the airport and 2.3 Million Rufiya was robbed near the State Bank of India last Sunday. The money lost in both the cases have yet to be found.
To this day of the year, 805 cases of theft and 115 cases of robbery has been reported to MPS. From this 171 cases of theft and 34 cases of robbery were reported to within the ongoing month of March.
