MVR 2 million has been stolen from a delivery van owned by State fisheries company, Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) in a heist carried out in broad daylight.
Maldives Police Service says the heist was reported to the agency at 3:15 pm this Wednesday.
The heist took place on the Male’ City ring road near the Villa College campus.
Managing Director of MIFCO, Ismail Fauzee reports the vehicle was carrying MVR 2 million to the airport for transport to Felivaru when the heist took place.
“The van is a MIFCO delivery van. The van was headed to the airport. They stole MVR 2 million being sent to Felivaru,” said Fauzee.
He said that the heist was carried out by four masked men who used a machete to break the side windows of the van.
MVR 2.3 million was stolen from BHM Traders in a similar daylight heist on March 10. MPS has six suspects in custody in connection with the case, but has had no luck in recovering the money.
