India to renovate IGMH, project dedicated to ‘people of Maldives’

Indian government has made the decision to renovate State-run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in a project “dedicated to the people of Maldives”.

Minister of External Affairs of India, Sushma Swaraj, who is on a two-day official visit to Maldives, inaugurated the renovation project last Sunday.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a short statement via its official Twitter account, said the IGMH was an “enduring symbol of friendship between Maldives and India”.

It confirmed that Swaraj visited IGMH on Sunday and dedicated the renovation project as a gift “to the people of Maldives”.

No details regarding the renovation project has been disclosed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

IGMH, the largest State-run hospital in Maldives, was financed by the Indian government and opened in 1995. The hospital is named after former Indian Prime Minister Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi.
