Maumoon pledges continued support to Solih’s administration

Former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has pledged his continued support to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his administration.

Maumoon expressed the sentiments during his courtesy call of Solih at the President’s Office this Tuesday.

President’s Office reports that Maumoon, during the meeting, pledged both his personal support and the support of his political party, Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), to the Maldivian administration.

The leaders also discussed the current projects by the administration.

The meeting between Solih and Maumoon comes after Jumhoory Party (JP) – a government coalition partner – confirmed its decision to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections with the support of opposition parties – Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC).

JP’s alliance with the opposition for the elections followed displeasure over the decision by main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), to contest for 86 parliamentary seats.
