Stickers issued to 379 vehicles for illegal parking from March 2-8

Parking violation stickers were issued to 379 vehicles in the one-week period from March 2-8, reports Maldives Police Service.

MPS released the statistics of the Traffic Management Department for March 2-8 this Sunday.

It shows 132 illegally parked vehicles were removed by traffic police during the period.

Owners of illegally parked vehicles are first contacted by officers and asked to voluntarily remove their vehicles before officers intervene and remove the vehicles themselves.

Parking violation stickers are issued for illegal parking in nine zones. They are:

  • Outside mosques
  • Zebra crosses, pavements
  • Street corners
  • Outside schools
  • Outside hospitals
  • Outside banks
  • Asphalt covered part of Boduthakurufaanu Magu
  • Areas with traffic cones, barricaded areas
  • Double lined areas

The statistics also show 52 road accidents took place during the one-week period.

Total 823 vehicles were checked by the traffic police during the period.

Traffic police stopped 183 vehicles operated without a license, 71 vehicles operated by permitted license holders who did not have their license card with them, five vehicles operated by minors, 75 vehicles operated by drivers who were talking on the phone or wearing headsets while driving, and 31 drivers who were smoking while driving.
