Police impound vehicle of 18-year-old in hit-and-run

Maldives Police Service located and impounded the motorcycle of the young man who fled the scene after hitting a pedestrian with his vehicle last Tuesday night.

The hit-and-run took place near the Avid College, located in Ameenee Magu of Male’ City, at approximately 9:50 pm.

The 18-year-old driver had hit a 54-year-old woman who was walking down the street outside the college, and had fled the scene without stopping.

The woman was hospitalized for treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and has now been discharged.

“She had two scrapes on her left hand and complained of pain to her sides and back,” said a media official from MPS.

The 18-year-old driver was later identified and located by investigators.

MPS reports the driver is unlicensed.

The motorcycle involved in the accident has been impounded.
