Parents from the B. Kihaadhoo School, this Thursday, held a demonstration to call for an end to mutigrade education at the school.
Both Grade 5 and Grade 6 at the Kihaadhoo School is taught in one classroom under the multigrade education system.
President of Kihaadhoo Council, Ibrahim Fazeel reports parents from the school held a demonstration in front.
Fazeel said none of the parents have yet to file a specific complaint regarding the multigrade system, and that the council has therefore not shared the issue with the Ministry of Education.
“Grade 5 and Grade 6 students were not taken to school today. It’s likely the parents demonstrated to demand the same resolution achieved by Hangameedhoo School in a similar case,” said Fazeel, referring to the successful campaign by parents of the A. Dh. Hangaameedhoo School to end mutigrade education for Grade 4 and Grade 5 students at the school.
Fazeel said the parents had held a peaceful demonstration in order to avoid disrupting classes.
“I have heard parents are unhappy with multigrade education,” said Fazeel.
