Civil Court judge Haleem resigns

Mohamed Haleem has stepped down from his post as Judge at the Civil Court.

In his resignation letter to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) this Tuesday, Haleem said he made the decision to resign from his post to cooperate with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s initiative to reform the Maldivian judiciary.

Haleem wrote that it was imperative for all current judges to resign from their posts to cooperate with Solih’s reform agenda and allow for reappointment of judges to Maldivian courts.

He said he wished to set an example to other Maldivian judges by resigning.

Haleem recently disclosed his income statements to the public, which revealed he earned MVR 571,800 in salary and allowances in 2018.

He spent MVR 400,0000 for rent, has a debt of MVR 98,065.76 at the Maldives Islamic Bank, and a debt of MVR 92,972.17 owed to the Bank of Maldives.

His assets include a motorcycle valued at MVR 78,000, a speedboat valued at MVR 390,000, 10 shares at Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), 100 shares at Dhiraagu, and 300 shares at Ooredoo Maldives.
