Transport Minister, Aishath Nahula, has said that a large toll fee will not be collected at the Sina Male’ Bridge even if the government goes into debt.
No tolls fees have been collected from those using the bridge between Male’ and Hulhumale’ developed from Chinese aid, since it’s official opening in August and public opening on 7 September.
Talking to the press today, Minister Nahula said that a date to start the collecting the toll has yet to be decided but the toll fee is not going to high beyond reach.
The Minister said that discussions are underway regarding the bridge toll and debates are taking place for and against it.
While the Ministry has announced that a decision on the toll is pending, the annual budget for the coming year has MVR 56 million allocated to install a toll collection system on the bridge.
