The MP for Velidhoo consitituency, Abdulla Yameen, has signed to the Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD).
At a press conference after signing to the party, Yameen said that he left PPM because he didn’t see a future for PPM.
He said that joing MTD is a beginning and many MPs will be joining MTD. He said that he is going to be one of the candidates seeks re-election to the parliament under MTD.
Last week, the MPs in the PPM Parliamentary Group, except two, were given the party ticket for the coming parliament election without a primary. Yameen, too, received the PPM ticket.
The Elections Commission authorized the formation of the newest political party in the country, the Maldives Third-Way Democrats, on 29 November 2018. The founder of the party is Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce, Ismail Asif.
The first person to sign to the new party was the former Vice President, Ahmed Adheeb.
