Elections Commission (EC) has granted permission for formation of a new political party, the Maldives Third Way Democrats.
Maldives Third Way Democrats is a political party founded by President of Maldivian National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MNCCI), Ismail Asif.
“Elections Commission has granted permission for formation of a political party called Maldives Third Way Democrats,” tweeted EC this Thursday afternoon.
Asif had been a supporter of former Maldivian President and Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom throughout his presidency, and had endorsed Yameen’s economic policies as “the best”.
This is the second new political party to be granted permission this year.
Attorney Abdulla Haseen was granted permission by EC to form Maldives Labor and Social Democratic Party (MLSDP) earlier this year.
