Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has decided to grant people noted to have remained loyal to the party over the past five years party tickets for the upcoming parliamentary elections, reports a senior official of PPM.
Elections Commission has announced the parliamentary elections 2019 will be held in March.
PPM has made no official statement on its preparations for the parliamentary elections.
However, a senior party official and member of PPM’s council has reported to ‘Sun’ that the party has decided to grant its tickets to PPM loyalists.
“PPM has made the decision to grant party tickets to those who have served the party faithfully for constituencies of their choosing,” said the senior official.
PPM is expected to issue information regarding its candidates this coming week.
PPM members and prominent member of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration; Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Minister of Defense Adam Shareef Umar have already announced candidacy for the Parliament.
