The terrorism charge against the former Maldivian President, Mohamed Nasheed, for unlawfully arresting now-President, Yameen Abdul Gayoom, has been withdrawn by the Criminal Court.
Attorney representing the former President, Hisaan Hussain confirmed this to Sun Media saying that the Criminal Court also cancelled the order to keep the ex-President Nasheed in custody for the hearings was also overruled.
Regarding the matter, an official from the Prosecutor General’s Office said that the charges were not withdrawn on their request but an independent decision by the court.
So far it is unclear as to why the former President’s case was withdrawn since there have been no official word from the Criminal Court.
