President of Elections Commission, Ahmed Shareef has been paid a visit by the delegation from European Union currently in Maldives.

The meeting took place this Monday morning at the EC headquarters.

The delegation from EU is headed by Tung-Laï Margue, EU’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives.

EC wrote in its official Twitter account that Shareef and the delegation from EU discussed allegations of elections rigging raised by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the threats issued to members of the commission following the results of the elections.

PPM has been holding nightly demonstrations alleging EC rigged the presidential elections in favor of President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu). The allegation has been denied by EC.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who lost the bid for re-election had initially conceded defeat during a televised statement. But he later himself alleged elections rigging during his speech to PPM demonstrators during the first night of the protest.
