Health Protection Agency (HPA) has issued a public warning to take necessary precautions against a possible flu outbreak in the country upon return of hajj pilgrims from Saudi Arabia.

HPA noted in a statement it issued last Wednesday that the return of pilgrims from hajj each year is marked with an uptick in spread of flus and fevers in the country. The authority noted that such illnesses are highly contagious and advised the public to take necessary precautions.

A flu clinic has been opened for Hajj pilgrims at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). Services from the flu clinic will be available every day from 6 pm to 12 midnight. Pilgrims will need to produce the identification cards given by hajj groups or their passports to receive services from the clinic.

HPA has advised pilgrims to seek immediate medical attention if they show symptoms such as fever, cough, or respiratory difficulties within 14 days after return home from Saudi Arabia.
