Heavy rain, thunderstorms forecasted for northern and central atolls

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected for northern and central atolls over the next 48 hours, reports Maldives Meteorological Service.

An official from Maldives Meteorological Service who spoke to “Sun” said the agency forecasts heavy rain, thunder storms and strong winds between H. A. Atoll to K. Atoll over the next 48 hours, starting from this Sunday morning.

“Winds may gust up to 45 miles per hour during showers. The sea will be rough in this area,” said the official.

The agency also issued a White Alert from H. A. Atoll to K. Atoll from 5:15 am to 10:15 am this Sunday.

Maldives Meteorological Service said the weather is expected to be fine in the southern atolls this Sunday, but will worsen on Monday.

“We forecast rainy weather for the southern atolls tomorrow,” said the official who spoke to “Sun” from the Maldives Meteorological Service.

The agency reports the country is experiencing the South-West Monsoon (Hulhangu Monsoon). It advises sea farers to take necessary precautions.
