The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has revealed the procedure in using the Zakat Fund to provide medical treatment for those living in poverty.
Islamic Ministry announced today that a decision was made to use the Zakat Fund for medical treatment in an effort to provide aid for those who do not get Aasandha and or for those that help is not sufficient.
Deputy Minister at the Islamic Ministry, Sheikh Ibrahim Ahmed told Sun Media that they have been using the Zakat Fund to provide medical treatment in the past as well.
The Ministry said that the Zakat Fund is being used for those whom the Aasandha assistance is not sufficient in Maldives and abroad and for those who make emergency transfer from the atolls to Male' City along with those who need treatments that are unavailable in the Maldives.
Applicants for aid from the fund is required all the relevant documents including the Aasandha statement, doctor's statement and a letter describing the state of the patient.
The Ministry said that MVR 25,000 will be given from the funds for treatments abroad and in the country but more could be given after taking the case under consideration. And MVR 50,000 would be given for cases involving special diseases which include kidney diseases, cancer, bone marrow transplants and heart diseases.
