Mohamed Shakeel has resigned from his post as a member of the Elections Commission.
Shakeel was appointed a member of EC on December 3, 2014.
His resignation has been confirmed by the Spokesperson at President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali.
Muaz tweeted this Wednesday that Shakeel has resigned from his post as a member of EC. And that he has been appointed a State Minister at Ministry of Economic Development.
Elections Commission is braced to hold by-elections for 12 constituencies to replace the 12 parliamentarians disqualified from their parliamentary seats for floor crossing, and the Maldivian Presidential Election later this year.
The President of EC, Ahmed Sulaiman resigned from his post in March, and has been replaced by Ahmed Shareef Adam – the former Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation. Sulaiman, meanwhile, has been appointed President of the National Integrity Commission (NIC).
