Maldives Police Service has said that they have found MVR 38 million from a house connected to the Supreme Court Judge, Ali Hameed Mohamed.
Speaking at a police press conference at Iskandharu Koshi, Superintendent, Ahmed Shifan said that the cash found at the house connected to Judge Ali Hameed include US dollars, British Pound and the local Rufiyaa.
While the police has revealed this information, they had previously said that over MVR 3 million were found in a bag that belonged to Judge Ali Hameed.
Police did not say if that money is included in the 38 million of found money announced today.
In a previous press conference, Superintendent Shifan said that USD 215,000 and MVR 150,000 inside a bag that belongs to the Supreme Court Judge.
Shifan said that the investigation has learned that the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom had helped the family of Judge Hameed in different ways.
Ali Hameed is being suspected of accepting bribes and working to overthrow an elected government. The JSC has suspended him following his arrest inside the Supreme Court during the State of Emergency in February 2018 along with the Chief Justice, Abdulla Saeed.
