Maldives has established diplomatic relations with the African country Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast).
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives reports diplomatic relations between Maldives and Ivory Coast was established this Saturday.
The agreement was signed in New York, US, by Dr. Ali Naseer - Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations and Ambassador of the Maldives to the US and Canada, and Permanent Representative of Ivory Coast to UN, Bernard Tanoh-Boutchoué.
The establishment of official diplomatic relations between Maldives and Ivory Coast brings the number of countries Maldives has diplomatic relations with to 167.
Ivory Coast is a West African country with a population of approximately 24 million people.
Maldives and Ivory Coast has worked together in the international platform long before the formalization of diplomatic ties this Saturday.
Both countries are members of the Organization of Islamic Corporation and support each other in many of the issues discussed at the United Nations.
