The land reclamation project is set to begin anew tomorrow at Shaviyani atoll Komandoo.
The project is contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The company's dredger, Mahaa Jarraaf, has arrived at the island.
While 40 percent of the project being already completed, the reclamation project beginning tomorrow would have an area of 7 to 10 hectares reclaimed.
Vice President of the Komandoo Island Council, Mohamed Arif Mohamed told Sun Media that MTCC would be completing the project with ten days.
Councilor Arif said that when the project is completed, the island's powerhouse and the waste management center would be moved to the new land along with some leases for businesses.
The annual state budget has over MVR 11 million allocated for a project of land reclamation and protecting the beach at Komandoo.
