Charges pressed in the studio rape case

Charges have been brought forth against a man in relation to the rape that took place inside an art studio in Male' City.

The Prosecutor General's Office brought the charges of rape against Hassan Faai, Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo, and a hearing has been scheduled for tomorrow.

Maldives Police Service began investigating the rape of a 19-year-old girl inside an art studio on 5 January 2018. The case was submitted at the Criminal Court on 2 February.

Hassan was arrested in Thinadhoo on 7 January. The victim of the attack has told some media outlets that she was raped after being taken to the studio under the guise of a project meeting.
