PPM calls to investigate call to foreign invasion of Maldives

Governing party, PPM, has called to investigate the former President, Mohamed Nasheed's call to foreign invasion of the by Maldives by armed forces.

Speaking at a press conference at the PPM Office today, the Leader of the party's Parliamentary Group, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, said that it is a crime to jeopardize the independence and sovereignty of the country and those who call for it must be investigated.

Nihan said that those calling to bring in armed invaders are traitors to the country and any support to such a call must be addressed and dismissing such things could have severe ramifications.

Vice President of PPM, Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) said that the people who called to bring armed foreign invasion to the must Maldives must be investigated and prosecuted just like the investigation and prosecution of the people who brought on the invasion of 3 November 1988 where 19 Maldivians were killed.

He said that the only difference this time is that a foreign invasion has not come to the Maldives.

Adhurey noted that all of the opposition plans in the past week were neutralized because the government was aware and prepared for it.

"There is no way a call to bring foreign invaders to overthrow the government could not be a crime." Adhurey said.

PPM has called for an investigation after the ex-President Mohamed Nasheed took to twitter earlier this week calling on India to make a physical presence in the Maldives by sending an envoy backed by it's military.
