Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed suspended

Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed – currently detained at Dhoonidhoo Custodial on charges of bribery and attempting to stage a coup – has been suspended.

Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed was arrested from the Supreme Court just hours after a State of Emergency was declared in the country. Police have announced there’s evidence Chief Justice participated in an attempt to overthrow the government.

Judicial Services Commission (JSC) announced this Thursday that Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed has been suspended from his duties pending a decision by the commission after police completes its investigation.

Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed has also been suspended by JSC.

Both the judges are detained on charges of attempting to stage a coup.
