MP for the South Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof, has been ordered to appear at the police station following a tweet he sent out in December 2017.
The summon order sent to the MP today says that he is being summoned because he gave misinformation to the police in a tweet he sent out last December regarding the demotion of the former Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Jamsheed.
Mahloof has been ordered to appear at the police headquarters this Saturday at 1:20 p.m.
The tweet in question was sent by Mahloof on 3 December in connection to the former Vice President, Ahmed Adheeb saying that Assistant Commissioner Jamsheed's demotion was halted because he had a valuable audio recording and asked to clear things up. The official account of the Maldives Police Service was tagged on the tweet.
MP Mahloof returned to the Maldives yesterday after a long time in the neighboring Sri Lanka.
After receiving the summon order from the Police, Mahloof tweeted a picture of the order saying that the police has welcomed him back to the country and sent his greeting to the Police Commissioner Areef.
