Maumoon Hameed, four judges amongst PG post applicants

Prominent lawyer Maumoon Hameed has again applied for the Prosecutor General (PG) post.

Maumoon Hameed was rejected for the post by the parliament with 36 votes. A minimum of 39 votes is required for approval.

After declaring that five applications were too few to make a selection and rejecting previous applications, the President's Office opened for fresh applications for the PG post for a third time on 7 May.

Four sitting judges have also applied for the latest opening. They are; Criminal Court judge Muhuthaz Muhsin, two Drug Court judges Mahaz Ali Zahir and Abdul Sattar Abdul Hameed and Baa Hithaadhoo Magistrate Court judge Ummu Kulsoom Aboobakuru.

Additional applicants include; former Tourism Minister Mariyam Zulfa and State Prosecutor at the Prosecutor General’s Office Aishath Fazna Ahmed.
