The government has stopped the efforts by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to find an investor to develop the island of Foththeyo as a tourist resort.
MTCC Spokesperson told Sun Online today that the announcement made in this regard by the company, inviting interested groups to submit proposals before Thursday, has been ‘stopped’ by President’s Office.
President’s Office was not available for a comment at press time.
Foththeyo, which is to be developed under a sub-lease agreement, was given to MTCC by the government as a subsidy after the company was appointed as the service provider of a Transport Network in the region.
A previous solicitation by MTCC for proposals for Foththeyo was annulled by Civil Court, which also ruled that the island should not be given to any group for the development of a tourist resort.
This was followed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) notifying MTCC to call for proposals anew, as corruption was involved in awarding this project to Akquasun Holidays Private Limited by the former government.
