Minister of Youth and Sports Mohamed Maleeh Jamal has said that better hospitality is being offered to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup teams by Maldives, than will be offered to the World Cup teams by Brazil.
Maleeh said this while speaking at a ceremony last night (Thursday night) to inaugurate Galolhu Stadium which has been rebranded to Official Football Stadium ahead of the AFC Challenge Cup.
“Maldives has offered better standard hospitality than even Brazil. The teams have accommodation of better quality, and I am confident they would not have to worry about food either,” he said.
He said that sports tourism will be introduced in the Maldives through the sports infrastructure being established across the country, and that the management of Herethere Resort is already in discussion in this regard with European clubs and groups.
He said that it is a dream to have European clubs hold practice matches at Addu Zone Stadium, which would further develop tourism in the country.
Maleeh called on all Maldivians to support the national team, and work towards ensuring Maldives wins the AFC Challenge Cup.
