Over 240 students join Villa International High School

Over 240 students have joined Villa International High School (VIHS) for the new academic year, scheduled to start next month.

VIHS Principal Saeed Ahmed told Sun Online said the school will start teaching in a single session from June. The the number of new admissions were granted with this in consideration, to maintain a healthy number of students in each class room, he Principal said.

A total of 247 new students have joined the school this year, but the number is likely to increase, according to Saeed Ahmed.

Under the school's policy to introduce modern technology to classrooms, the school is trying to established a Parent Portal, which will enable parents to monitor their children’s school activities online. Fresh students will also start their academic year with new personal tablet computers.

“One thing we’re introducing this year is the use of Android tablets in learning. Our aim is to begin teaching grade 11 students through this. We started training teachers (to teach through tablets) a few months back.”

“It will be a great comfort if the parents, in their busy schedules, can check if their children attended school, if they did or did not attend all their classes. We expect it (the online Parent Portal) to be completed by June,” Saeed Ahmed said.

A total of 86 students from the atolls and 159 students from schools in Male’ have joined VIHS grade 11 so far this year. This includes 125 male and 122 students. Orientation programs for fresh students is scheduled to begin next week.

Villa International High School, the first private high school in Maldives, was established under a public-private partnership in 2010. The school currently accommodates 440 students in its grade 11 classes and 530 students in grade 12 classes.
